The ammonium ion (NH4+) is one of the most common nitrogenous contaminants in water. Its presence, originating from both natural and industrial sources, requires strict monitoring to ensure compliance with regulatory health standards. This study aimed to assess the applicability of the method for determining ammoniacal nitrogen using a selective electrode, in accordance with NOM‑127‑SSA1‑2021, Appendix 2.7. Two analytical sessions were conducted using purified water samples. In the first stage, a calibration curve was built using standards ranging from 0.1 to 1000 mg/L, achieving the required correlation coefficient (≥ 0.997) and recovery ranges (80-120 %) set forth in NMX‑AA‑115‑SCFI‑2015. In the second stage, samples were fortified to evaluate parameters such as linear range, limit of quantification, recovery, bias, repeatability, and reproducibility. The results met the regulatory criteria, demonstrating the method’s efficacy. The procedure enables precise and reliable determination of ammoniacal nitrogen in drinking water, positioning itself as an effective analytical tool to strengthen water quality monitoring in supply systems.
