The professional context in which this project will be developed is in the dimensional section. The Dimensional Quality department is a branch of quality that is responsible for having all the reference points of a specific part within certain tolerances on the X, Y, Z axes.
The project will be developed at Metalsa, a supplier of structural components for light and commercial vehicles. Specifically at the Toyota Chassis Assembly Plant (Tacoma, Tundra).
Using a coordinate measuring machine, it is possible to know how the chassis is dimensionally. From a reference model taken as nominal, certain tolerances are established in which an item can be measured and determine if it meets the standards.
There is a general percentage that indicates how dimensionally correct the chassis is to the model, and from this, to be able to generate actions to improve it. In addition, there is a specific percentage for each part that makes up the chassis, and through these percentages they can be improved little by little.
The theme of the project is “Preventive Dimensional Adjustments”; previously Dimensional Quality made adjustments on the assembly line to bring an item out of specification to within specification. In addition to this, a preventive branch has been created, which consists of making adjustments on the assembly line to items that are still within specification, but close to being out, to have them as close to nominal, with the aim of preventing that any part has a dimensional failure in the future...
