Factors that influence the reproval of FIME students in basic sciences

Abstract

The objective of the article is to carry out a study and analyze the different factors causing the failure to determine which are the main ones, because it is one of the most common problems faced by undergraduate students. It was an investigation of a non-experimental quantitative type with a descriptive scope with a transversal design. Failure is a broad problem that should not be attributed to students, so the present study considered the factors: student, institution and social context. The research was carried out with the participation of 315 undergraduate students from the Facultad de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica who found the learning units in the area of basic sciences in third and fifth opportunities. The factors were analyzed with a measurement instrument of the production itself, which consisted of a survey with different questions to measure each factor using the Likert
scale.
Among the main results were found that the personal factors (student) that have a greater impact on academic performance so that more attention should be paid in the sayings.
